Wedding customs in the villages of Rhodes

A few days before the wedding, village women gather and make melekounia singing in a festive atmosfere. The remaining honey won't go to waste. According to the tradition, a civil war begins when the relatives of the couple tease each other. When this "battle" is over relatives as well as guests are covered in honey. Then, melekounia served on lemon tree leaves, are deleivered door-to-door to residents of the village as an invitation to the wedding.. The remaining melekounia are offered to the guests at the church after the wedding.
